Chez Weng Modern Grill Restaurant Precinct 10 Penang

Precinct 10 had given Penang people another place to chill out. A lots of new food place had set up in this new premium food & beverage hub. It is another branch for Classic at Bellisa Row Pulau Tikus, Penang. This time they had Modern Grill concept for Chez Weng. It is a great place for friend and family as well.

Chez Weng when i heard of the name i though is a Chinese cuisine restaurant. The name is actually in French. They serve fine dinning food.

Front view of Chez Weng.

Ambient of Chez Weng shown below.

The place is actually simple and cozy. The setting actually give you a down to earth feeling even though they are serving sort of fine dinning food :)

First to come is fresh bread and Dukkah. It taste good cause It was on the house :)

It served with Extra virgin olive oil and Dukkah. (Duqqa [also spelled dukkah or dukka] is an Egyptian side dish consisting of a mixture of herbs, nuts, probably hazelnut, and spices. It is typically used as a dip with bread or fresh vegetables ~ Wikipedia)

Caesar Salad (RM22.00). Look normal but it taste good and we love it. It contain butter-head lettuce, cheese, fresh herb, croutons, extra virgin olive oil, mayonnaise and dash of paper. It was a fresh dish to start your meal :)

Mushroom soup RM15. Hot fresh mushroom soup in a fancy big plate and topped with some frsh herb, it was good .

Want some hot mushroom soup?

Smoked pork chop RM32.00. In the menu it mention onion ring but i can't find any of them in the dish. Well cooked juicy pork chop, sweet potato mash, garlic fried Chinese kale and super good caramelize onion sauce. Everyone been dipping in this sauce.

Duck Conflit RM38.00. The duck was not dry as i liked. Still a bit moist that it got that smelly duck smell.  The smoke sausage was so good. Look the way they make the sausage skin crunchy :) It also came with boiled broccoli, mash potato , orange glaze and topped with some fresh herb.

Duck was ok but the sausage was so good that they should just sell smoked sausage.

The most expensive piece of meat for the day, Australia Wagyu Sirloin 220g RM98.00. It came with expensive piece of wagyu beef of cause,  boiled broccoli, mash potato, reduction red wine sauce and fresh herb.

See how marble was the wagyu beef? The marble was the reason why wagyu so tender and juicy. The mouthwatering meat was well cooked to medium, soft, tender and juicy. We love it but cry later when paid the bill :)

Pizza - Prosciutto, pear, rocket and a lot of parmeson cheese. Yeah you read it right it was a PEAR. Pizza :)

You can see the pear was thinly sliced. It gave the pizza a great pear aroma and sweetness. The prosciutto was salty so the sweetness of the pear sort of neutralist each other. Fresh rocket went well on this pizza. I not a fan of rocket cause it's bitterness. It really went well with this pizza :)

Panna Cotta and fresh berries and chocolate sauce RM16.00. I don't really like our sweet ending. I found it kind of plastic feel after eat. Although i needed to give them credit on using the real vanilla bean.

Over all dinning experiment was good. The server will explain every single dishes when they brought to you, so kind of new to us but in a good way. Beside that they will approved you and asked about your food. Whether you like it or not. Not sure if you answer don't like it will they still charge you :P The food was expensive but great cooked, great ingredient and great service. So it is a great place to bring you love one to celebrate or enjoy once a while.

They also served set lunch (RM38++ to RM58++) and set dinner (RM48++ to RM88++). It come with a starter which you can choose either soup or salad, a main, dessert of the day and coffee or tea.

Shunka Yatai Ryori 1st Avenue Penang

A new stall was opened at 1st Avenue recently. It is located in front of Red box karaoke and chatime tea house. We saw it setting up for a while wandering what they were selling. Finally they were opened and we happened to need a light meal.

It is called Shunka Yatai Ryori. They were selling Japanese & fusion food. We were told by the server that Shunka were implementing Shunka Kiosk Concept called as Oden in Japanese. It is a Japanese traditional style kiosk, usually located in shopping mall, airport, MRT and so on. This concept has been started in Japan, Taiwan and China. Hence, everyone has the opportunity to taste the high quality Japanese home-style foods in Shunka Japanese and Fusion Foods. Shunka Yatai Ryori in 1st Avenue Penang is a fusion stall. When Shunka was introduce to Taiwan, they sort of blend in Taiwanese style as well. So Shunka Yatai Ryori is a Japanese and fusion food :)

The stall front view is gorgeous.

They were putting so many sign name so a bit confusing what to call the stall. Anyway the first though that came across my mind when i was introduced by the server was lok lok. Just that the ingredient used was Japanese ingredient or i should call it high class lok lok.

The ambient there were cool but too blue for photo shooting.

The kitchen was so big but i found that they never fully utilize the place properly. May be they have plan to expend their kitchen bigger in the future selling more food :)

All the items or food were cooked in their special soup. They were absorbed all the goodness and juices from the soup all the time before served.

Another cook station selling Cheese tamagoyaki and tamagoyaki. It was cooked slowly and carefully.

They also provided various type of sauces. They were Wasabi, Mustard, Tougarashi (Japanese Chilies flake), Sweet Sauce, Rayu (Japanese Chilies oil used for soup), Japanese Soy Sauce, Tonkatsu Sauce (Sweet and sour sauce, i like this very much. Tasted like tamarind sauce), Tomato Sauce, Chilies Sauce and Mayonnaise.

Click the picture for larger view :)

The menu was very misleading. It mention set meal which is not a set meal. It was a suggestion on how you can ordered your food. The "set meal" must ordered a minimum of 3 items only can order the Japanese steamed rice RM3 or Udon RM6 or Soba RM6 or Cha Soba RM6 or Ramen RM5. The item you picked will charge separated. So the cheapest item price was RM1.90. 3 items will go up to a minimum of RM5.7 without rice or noodle. If you order the cheapest item, which is rice. You will need to pay RM8.7. So it is kind of expensive light meal.

Korokke RM5.90. It came with Tougarashi and Tonkatsu Sauce but you can always choose your own sauce to dip in. Not really a fan for this snack. It was crispy on the outside, soft and melted inside. A bit pricey for this small piece of snack.

Our "set meal" was ready :)

We ordered Enoki mushroom RM1.90, satsuma age RM2.90 and hapen RM1.90. Don't forget our cha soba RM6, so came to a total of RM12.70. The best thing in the dish was Satsuma age, enoki mushroom and the soup. It was a very expensive light meal.

Sorry for the lousy food shot it is because my camera don't work well under blue light. Food wise they were using good quality ingredient. Packaging they were also using very good quality container but the price is on the high side. Beside that the portion was rather small for a guy but just nice for a little gal :)

Tong Pak fu Hong Kong Dessert, 糖百府 at Empire Shopping Gallery

Here our second dessert of the day 2 at Tong Pak Fu Hong Kong Dessert 糖百府. The first encounter of this dessert shop was in Hong Kong 2010. So i always called it HK Tong Pak Fu. This is because Penang has another Tong Pak Fu 糖伯府. Penang Tong Pak Fu 糖伯府 dessert can't compare with the Tong Pak Fu Hong Kong Dessert 糖百府 that i had in Hong Kong. So how is the brunch in Malaysia taste like? Let check out their new stall at Empire Shopping Gallery.

It was quite late when we arrived. So we rushed in the dessert place tired and craving for a good dessert. We just ran in the and look at the menu. They were award wining dessert from Hong Kong shown in the menu. Me so blur that forget to take the front  view of the shop.

Even thought was around 10pm but the place was packed with people hungry for a sweet ending for the day.

First to come is Chocolate snow Ice 巧克力秋香, RM6.80. It was a chocolate snow ice came with banana and nata de coco. Sad to say that the chocolate used was a lousy chocolate. It taste like pasar malam chocolate taste.
Close shoots of our Chocolate snow Ice 巧克力秋香

Next to come was Glutinous Rice Ball  麻甩( 芝麻糖不甩), RM4.80. It came with peanut and sesame seed mix topping which were pretty good.

See how Q the glutinous rice ball was. It went well with this peanut and sesame mix topping.

This was the cross-section of the glutinous rice ball. It was black inside as well. I believe they use black glutinous rice flour to make the ball.

Beside that it was freshly made as well. Our order was the last one. After this they closed kitchen for closed up.

We were given a card after payment. I love the reward card very much cause of the cute cartoon.
Below was a flyer i took in Hong Kong during my visit in 2010. As you can see the selection in the menu was not much but they had more variety of topping to choose from. You can even DIY your own dessert.

We love the green tea qq ball in green tea snow ice very much. The menu in Malaysia had less topping but more choices compare the 2010 Hong Kong menu. It was quite disappointing cause we had very high expectation with them. Even though Hong Kong's Tong Pak fu , 糖百府 served better dessert then Empire Shopping Gallery one but Empire Shopping Gallery one is definitely better then Penang Tong Pak Fu 糖伯府
