Tong Pak fu Hong Kong Dessert, 糖百府 at Empire Shopping Gallery

Here our second dessert of the day 2 at Tong Pak Fu Hong Kong Dessert 糖百府. The first encounter of this dessert shop was in Hong Kong 2010. So i always called it HK Tong Pak Fu. This is because Penang has another Tong Pak Fu 糖伯府. Penang Tong Pak Fu 糖伯府 dessert can't compare with the Tong Pak Fu Hong Kong Dessert 糖百府 that i had in Hong Kong. So how is the brunch in Malaysia taste like? Let check out their new stall at Empire Shopping Gallery.

It was quite late when we arrived. So we rushed in the dessert place tired and craving for a good dessert. We just ran in the and look at the menu. They were award wining dessert from Hong Kong shown in the menu. Me so blur that forget to take the front  view of the shop.

Even thought was around 10pm but the place was packed with people hungry for a sweet ending for the day.

First to come is Chocolate snow Ice 巧克力秋香, RM6.80. It was a chocolate snow ice came with banana and nata de coco. Sad to say that the chocolate used was a lousy chocolate. It taste like pasar malam chocolate taste.
Close shoots of our Chocolate snow Ice 巧克力秋香

Next to come was Glutinous Rice Ball  麻甩( 芝麻糖不甩), RM4.80. It came with peanut and sesame seed mix topping which were pretty good.

See how Q the glutinous rice ball was. It went well with this peanut and sesame mix topping.

This was the cross-section of the glutinous rice ball. It was black inside as well. I believe they use black glutinous rice flour to make the ball.

Beside that it was freshly made as well. Our order was the last one. After this they closed kitchen for closed up.

We were given a card after payment. I love the reward card very much cause of the cute cartoon.
Below was a flyer i took in Hong Kong during my visit in 2010. As you can see the selection in the menu was not much but they had more variety of topping to choose from. You can even DIY your own dessert.

We love the green tea qq ball in green tea snow ice very much. The menu in Malaysia had less topping but more choices compare the 2010 Hong Kong menu. It was quite disappointing cause we had very high expectation with them. Even though Hong Kong's Tong Pak fu , 糖百府 served better dessert then Empire Shopping Gallery one but Empire Shopping Gallery one is definitely better then Penang Tong Pak Fu 糖伯府

Dontaku Ramen Japanese Restaurant at 1 Utama at Petaling JayaThe

While walking around 1 Utama figuring what to eat, we noticed this Japanese Restaurant was pack with people. So we decided to try out this place. Food there were disappointing, although it is not bad but why it is pack with people? Service was slow as well. Beside that we did inquiry on the food but wrong information were given. So it is really a bad experience dined in this restaurant.

Dontaku Ramen Japanese Restaurant at 1 Utama Petaling Jaya.

The front look of the restaurant. It was decorated the front with beautiful Japanese bowls. Let say each cost around RM30~40. So the you can image how much it cause to show off the bowl.

The seating at the restaurant.

Our cold and hot ocha.

Our first that came was this Beef Steak Garlic Rice Set (RM19.50). The beef was medium done but it taste soso.

It also come with salad, pickles and miso soup. Miso soup really lousy, tasteless and watery.

Next to come was our Tottori beef ramen (RM17.00).

The pickle dish that come along were lousy and smelly. The ikan bilis was so smelly that i don't even eat it. Bean sprout in the soup was horrible and smelly as well. Soup, beef and ramen taste ok.

Volcano roll (RM14.50).

This roll taste good but expensive.

Overall dinning experience was bad and food tasted soso. I will not go there again in any of my KL trip. Short review on this food place for just to record what i had experience in my KL trip.

Molten Lava Cafe at 1 Utama Petaling Jaya

It is located in front of the cold storage of 1 Utama. It is a quiet side of the old wing 1 Utama . So you might need to walk for a while to there :) We get to know this shop by Google review online.

Front view of the Molten Lava Cafe. It is a very attractive shop that stand out at the quiet corner.

Ambient and some of the dessert they serve there.

You can sit inside the shop or opposite the shop. I recommend you to sit outside because inside is a bit hot and oily.

Churros  were made upon ordered. So you will had your Churros fresh and piping hot. Enjoy it slowly to prevent lips burn.

Molten Chocolate Dip Churros (RM5.80). Churros is a Spanish sweet snack consisting of a strip of fried dough dusted with icing sugar or cinnamon.

It came with a molten chocolate, it taste familiar. Cyn suspect it is a melted Cadbury Chocolate sauce. Anyway we will try out at home to confirm it. The chocolate dip is good even it eat alone.

Although it was dusted with icing sugar but it was not sweet even dip in the chocolate sauce. Looked yummy? Yeah it certainly yummy but abit pricey for 4 batang of fried donuts.

Next we ordered the Macaroon. They were Salted caramel and hazelnut flavor Macaroon (RM3.30 each). Cyn was into making her own Macaroon so when she saw this she wanted to try it. Sad to say they Macaroons were lousy.

The Macaroon were dry. Second macaroon had a huge air bubble on the top piece. To pay RM3.30 per piece we should get a better quality macaroon.

Ben's at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur

It looked like delicious type of cafe. Food and price wise within our budget. Ben's was voted Best New Restaurant in the Time Out KL Food Awards 2011. After some google-ing on the phone we decided to dine in ben's.

The outlook of ben's at Pavilion KL. Look classy rite?

Simple and elegant design at ben's.

The place was crowded with people during our lunch time at 3.00pm.

They also have outdoor area for smoker to dine in.

If you worry to get bored or out of topic during dine in. Don't worry, ben's have a box of card board of different topic to keep you from being bored at the table. They were Recipe, table topic and suggestion.

Cake area to show off their cake. I went there to see which one i going to have later but none of them were choosed because i planed for other dessert.

Chunky Mushroom Soup (RM11.90). It taste good doh, with a lots mushroom blended inside.

It came with truffle oil and garlic toast. Although we not really a fan of truffle oil.

Crispy Duck Confit Spaghettini (RM22.90). We ordered this because we loved this dish at delicious so we wanted to compare them. ben's didn't fail us doh. Although the duck meat not crispy enough cause it was thick.

It was covered with a lots of rockets and sun dried tomato. Although we are not a fan of rocket but it serve right with this dish. We loved the sun dried tomato as well.

Quiche Lorraine (RM15.90). Not really a fan of this dish although it taste good but it is very filling. After we ate half of it we don't feel like finishing it already.

It contain beef bacon and caramelized onion. It also came with a bowl of salad.

I also into chilies flake so i also try out their chilies flake. Not spicy and no kick for me.

It is quite a good place to dine during your visit to KL.

Day 4 KL Food Road Trip CNY 2012

The last day in KL we went to 1Utama for last minute shopping. After we settled the shopping and our stomach, we hit the road to balik Penang. During the balik kampung trip we planed some small trip to Hot Spring (Taman Rekreasi Air Panas (TRAP) Sungai Klah, Sungkai, Perak). Eventually we just drop by the hot spring and didn't went in because we were not prepared for it. We might plan for next road trip to KL.

First stop was Mister Donut. I came across this donut from my Japanese friend. She told me that the best donut she ever had was this mister donut. It even better then J.Co or  krispy kreme. So once i walk pass Jusco food court and saw this i immediately wanted to try this out.

While i looking at the donut i saw their best selling donut was this Pon De Ring (RM2.60). It said it was Japanese most famous donut with "mochi-mochi" texture.

The ambient of the Mister Donut, simple yet nice.

So we ordered the Pon De Ring and the Angel Cream (RM2.60 ~ 2.80). Not sure the actual price. Anyway i love the Pon De Ring texture. The Angel Cream was the top 4 best selling donut. The angel cream was fresh whipping cream dust with icing sugar donut. It was good too.

Recently i am into Pork Burger. I been eagle to try out this Japanese Pork burger, Ninja Joe. I heard of this burger from a ex-flogger so without much though we walked in for our lunch.

The menu was simple and the place was too.

Too bad the pork burger taste very porky and cold. Quite disappointed with it.

Cyn can't stand the porky smell and wanted to had some thing else to take away the porky smell. So we went to the opposite shop Hokkaido Ice Cream.

We order the Vanilla and salted caramel (RM6.80).  If you notice that the ice cream was half finished. Funny thing during the purchasee of the ice cream. Cyn didn't pay for the ice cream and walk away eating it. So when i walked away from the shop the server called me to pay. See la how power is the porky smell pork burger.

After Ice Cream, Cyn still can felt the porky smell in her mouth. So we went for some thing stronger (Cinnabon) to take away the smell.

Shop ambient of Cinnabon

We ordered having here but the server packed it for us.

Mini Cinnabon roll (RM3.80), It was good but not hot. Actually you can ask the server to heat up for you.

After we clear the porky smell we hit the road and balik kampung. Along the way we went to Restoran Wing Lok Yuan 永樂園餐廳 for the famous claypot chicken rice.
