Peranakan/ Nyonya Cuisine @ Eastin Hotel Penang

I notice recently Penang Government had done alot to promote Penang to the world. Thanks to The Man behind all this great work, Mr Lim Guan Eng. So this month (July) promotion, Peranakan Cuisine at Swez Brasserie. Featuring an array of authentic delicacies from the Peranakan that have been handed down for generations just like how grandma used to cook.

Itik Tim/ Salted Vegetables Duck Soup (咸菜鸭汤). It is typical nyonya soup that everyone know. It is sour, and spicy which start your appetite for the rest of the meal. It is on the salty side to my liking but the chef promise will improve on that.

Nyonya Pie Tee Cup (娘惹金杯薄饼). Minced chicken with deep fried shallot and spring onion in a crispy cup. This dish must serve hot as the cup will be sloggi while cold. In order to increase the flavor of the dish a special made chilies sauce were made for it.

Nyonya Kerabu Ayam (娘惹凉拌鸡肉). It is a traditional chicken salad. It is on the sweet side but i quite like it.

Jiu Hoo Char/ Stir Fried Jicama with Dried Cuttlefish Strips (鱿鱼炒甜萝卜丝). It is a must ordered dish whenever you visit a nyonya restaurant. Its look simple but it consume a lot times to make it. Stir fried thinly sliced carrot,  Jicama and dried cuttlefish strips. Served with special made sambal balacan it will be perfect for a big bowl of rice. The sambal need some improvement doh :)

Nyonya Yellow Curry Chicken (娘惹风鸡肉黄咖哩). Not my bowl of curry cause it is on the heavy side.

Tiger Prawns for the dish- Assam Prawns (阿参虾). It was dried to my liking. The sourness of the assam sauce really bring out the flavor of the prawn. Yum!

Follow by all those delicious nyonya kuih.
